Grand Strand SCORE offers Community Workshops that are FREE and held across the region to aide in dealing with the current business climate. Subjects include "How to REALLY Start Your Own Business" and "How to Survive a Recession." Contact the SCORE office for scheduling. |

Grand Strand SCORE, in conjunction with the Georgetown Chamber of Commercce and the Georgetown County Board of Education, conducts business education for middle school students the first week of summer break. The program, named "Junior Apprentice", teaches business planning, market research, and teamwork. At the end of the week, teams present their conceptual comapnies to a local CEO who critiques their work and chooses a winner. If you are well along the way and have a good idea about your business idea or are already in business, the "Starting a Business - Series" workshops will give you extensive detailed guidance to develop a meaningful business plan and a good, workable project plan aimed at a successful startup or an improved operation. Save by taking all six courses: Starting A Business-Basics, Market Planning I, Market Planning II, Managing Your Business Startup, Financial Planning, and Business Plans. Market planning will continue with review of media methods to find prospects and convert to customers. Student will present their startup timing and funding needs. Presentation will show how to develop the critical financial information for use in the Business Plan. Topics will include the necessary information to obtain funding and to use as a guide in the startup and operation of your new business. Emphasis will be on budgets, cash flows, startup costs, financing requirements and timing. Ensuring your new enterprise's profitability is the key objective. Students will give brief presentation of their Business Plan. Develop a complete, concise, and completely usable Business Plan, the key milestone for every small business. Use of the information from the earlier workshops along with Business Planning Software will be demonstrated. Software will be available for use by the students in follow-up individual counseling. This "How to" session examines the key financial documents necessary to effectively manage a small business. Key areas covered will be budgeting, P&L statements, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements, Break Even Analysis, and key ratios to watch. How to get data and produce the above documents. How to use each document to do effective financial management. Key mistakes to avoid are also covered. Handouts included. 3 hours |

This two session marketing workshop is aimed at existing businesses who are not satisfied with their current marketing performance.
